What is ESD?
ESD means Electrostatic Discharge and refers to the mild electrostatic discharges that occur as a result of potential differences. These differences in potential often occur without us realising it, for example by wearing certain types of clothing or walking on synthetic carpets. You usually only notice the accumulated charge when a discharge occurs, such as a short shock or spark.
ESD can occur when a charged object comes into contact with another object, leading to a shock that can harm sensitive electronic components. Even a discharge too weak to be felt by humans can cause major damage to electronic equipment.
