The challenge

Challenges with low-speed items and products with awkward shapes.

Quantore has made significant strides in automating their warehouse for fast-moving and small items in recent years. However, this automation hasn't been extended to items with low turnover and those with awkward shapes that couldn't be easily handled by the automated system.

This process involved collecting items on a Euro pallet using a pallet truck. After gathering the orders, the items were sorted at the packing table.

During this process, the following disadvantages were encountered:

  • The pallet has only one level, allowing a limited number of items to be collected per round.
  • he process is not ergonomic due to frequent bending to the pallet.
  • The lack of a stop edge often resulted in accidentally dropping products.

The solution

Quantore optimises warehouse with tugger carts for increased picking capacity

The shelf carts are developed with our Heavy Duty system, allowing the creation of a tugger carts that can be pulled by a Movexx electric tug.

The sturdy cart has four shelves, with two serving as picking levels. Each level is divided into two sections of 800x600, resulting in 4 picking locations per cart. Quantore has chosen to transport three of these carts in a row, providing them with 12 picking positions. At the bottom of the cart, a shelf is provided for cardboard, designed to carry empty boxes directly during picking. At the top of the cart, an additional shelf is mounted where products that do not fit on the other levels can be placed.

Efficient tugger carts with Pick-to-Light and smooth movement in tight spaces

At the front of the first cart, a tool board is attached, on which the PC Data hardware (pick-to-light) can be mounted. A custom-designed shelf has been created for the wireless label printer used by Quantore. This shelf has mounting holes to securely fasten the printer. There is also a convenient tray for collecting printed labels and even a small trash bin for waste during the picking process.

The cart is equipped with six high-quality sprung wheels, with the middle two being swivel casters. This ensures a short turning radius, which is essential in Quantore's narrow aisles. To pull the carts, they use a Movexx tug type RR1000-S. For this, we have developed a coupling piece perfectly matched to the coupling arm of Movexx.

The benefits for Quantore

By utilizing these Heavy Duty shelf carts as a tugger cart, Quantore has significantly enhanced their order picking process, resulting in:

  • The ability to collect more orders in a single round.
  • Further improvement of efficiency in the process by adding pick-to-light.
  • The ergonomic and easy movement of the route train thanks to the use of the Movexx tug.

The partner for a custom project

At the top of the cart, space has been deliberately left free by keeping the tube longer. This allows the spacing between levels to be adjusted at any time in the future.

This illustrates the main advantage of our modular Tube & Joint system: it is always adaptable and expandable.
